Doug Duncan has been painting pet portraits for almost two decades.
He received his Bachelors’ Degree in Art Studio and Art History from the University of Alabama in Birmingham in the eighties and soon discovered that the corporate world wasn't looking for Art Majors, without computer skills.
So Duncan took a job in an Art Supply store just to pay the bills and get a discount on his art supplies.
"I literally was what people would call a starving artist. In my spare time, I would paint original pieces and occasionally sell them. When Christmas came, I couldn't afford to buy presents for my family or friends so I decided to paint portraits of their pets from photographs that I had taken."
Duncan's technique of "painting from photographs" soon caught on and has exploded with the age of internet and email, garnering clients from all over the country. He currently resides in Birmingham, Alabama.
